what the girls are on about 16
this week i am a bank holiday hating, creatine taking, overnight oat making girly. and my girl chat wants you to know easter eggs are CANCELLED.
1. working a bank holiday is better than a holiday
When I posted a story on ig of me working on Good Friday I got no less than three messages from people saying how sad they were that I don’t get bank holidays off. Girls, I choose to work bank holidays! I have done ever since I got the option. First off, I did it because I don’t have any kids or much family around. Easter long weekend isn’t really a thing in my house. My in-laws will come over on Sunday for an Easter lunch and that’s that! So, I worked Good Friday. I got two messages on Slack the entire day. I was able to clear 80 emails out of my inbox, and catch up on all my unread messages on Slack after a week off of work. It was glorious!!!!! I’ve been known to work over Christmas for the same reason: it’s very, very chill.
2. the running girlies are taking creatine
By ‘the girls’ I mean me and my mom. I saw a TikTok that cited a research study into the effects of taking creatine on women, specifically. Full disclosure: I am not a gym girly, I am not a gains girly, I didn’t know what creatine was. But the TikTok made it sound good! Naturally, I did what I always do in this situation: I sent it to my mom and said investigate please. My mom’s two niche interests are fixing your body with vitamins and good things naturally found in every day food, and reading research papers. She’s the type to force feed you a brazil nut. Anyways, long story short: it won’t make you gain weight, it probably will help you recover and build muscle mass, especially if you’re doing a lot of strenuous exercise (like I was, marathon training). I really struggled to eat enough carbs and protein while marathon training, so taking creatine helped! I mix it into a glass of sparkling water and add a vitamin c tablet every morning.
3. overnight oats WILL change your life
Don’t start at me over the texture. The key is to add fruit that don’t go funny overnight, and then the texture doesn’t matter so much because the oats seem fresh. Raspberries are my favourite. The recipe” is this:
1/3 cup of oats (roughly)
a handful of chopped walnuts
two dates, seeded and diced
a sprinkle of sunflower seeds (the green ones)
a handful of raspberries, slightly smushed/broken apart
a decent glog of milk
two spoonfuls of natural or greek yogurt
a splash of maple syrup
Mix it all together in a small tupperware, close her up and chuck her in the fridge overnight. GREAT for breakfast
4. easter eggs are on ozempic :(
Oh? You’re not on ozempic yet? Well, fuck you anyways! Even if you don’t want to shrink yourself, everything around you is shrinking! I’m talking ALL the easter eggs of course. Shrinkflation is so strong with this one, you’ll need to buy two of them to get the same amount of chocolate you DESERVE from an easter egg. Joking aside: this easter made shrinkflation too real and too in our faces in a mean way. What do you mean I paid £3 for this skinny ass egg? What do you mean when you shrank the egg it became a misshapen oval?? What do you mean there’s only 12 mini eggs in my £1.50 pouch??? In the wise words of j-law: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
5. i am the token catholic friend
There’s not many times when the token catholic must show up in the girl chats. But, Easter Monday I reclaimed my title when, only moments after I switched on BBC breakfast, we got the breaking news that Pope Francis had passed. I watched it live as it broke, and did what any good catholic would do: ran to all my group chats, bell in hand, town crier style, to let them know. Then, I listened to all the podcasts about our favourite Pope and sent them to my mom. She loved Francis, so did I, so did we all.
things i’m loving this week
Cicaplast w spf50; I went to a giant french pharmacy last week and boy o boy I am FEELIN GOOD for it. This was one of the first things i picked up
chunky gold hoops; bought in stradivarius before paris and they’re great. not fancy nice, but just what i wanted
my new lil beige bag; another thing bought in stradivarius before paris! i get stressed travelling with my strathberry, especially if it’s forecasted to rain. got this in stradivarius for £30 and whacked it around town with me, rain or shine. it clasps shut (bye bye pickpockets!) and has a cute lil scarf in it’s handle. and goes w everything! mini bag, but boho.
salomon xt6s; bought these bc they were trendy last year but they’re actual the best slip on walking shoe for a city walker like ME
lululemon shake it out shorts; light, floaty and SO cute but i had to get them from my mom bc theyre all sold out in my size in the uk
uniqlo floaty gingham trousers; linen season is back, baby! M&S have some good ones too
rituals spf lip balm; a repeat fav of mine, crucial for the upcoming sunny days
havaianas; sticking with the summer’s nearly here theme. not all flip flops are made equal. mine are beige so u can’t tell when they’re sandy (or dirty), love the navy too tho
rare beauty blush; this + concealer have been my entire makeup routine lately
ouai leave in conditioner; no rain + low humidity = DRY hair. this helps.
Working on Christmas is great, basically a free day off.
Genius!
