what the girls are on about 8
Mollie mae is girlbossing her way across Prime, my girls are also girlbossing their way into their own flats, and I, mostly, am crying about the sun.
1. living alone as a woman is a BIG DEAL
The millennial/gen z generations have this goal in their life: at some point, you should live alone. especially if you’re single into your late 20s/early 30s. Because we were raised to see ourselves as equal to our male counterparts, we don’t really think about why that is maybe not actually the same. So, can we take a moment to appreciate what an absolute baller achievement that is? You’ve got your own bachelor pad! In the UK, women were regularly refused mortgages in their own name until 1975! Whether you’re renting alone, or owning alone, you deserve mega kudos; That is no small achievement. It is not just another milestone you were expected to reach. I have never done it, I will probably never do it, and most of the women I know won’t either. Lots of the men, too! Women who live alone: you are amazing. Women who never got the chance to live alone: I still love you, you probably are killing it in other ways, but lets celebrate our sisters here.
2. mollie mae’s docu was kinda boring :(
The most interesting takeaway for me was something I’d already guessed: Mollie Mae def didn’t think that was the END of her relationship with Tommy Fury, as dramatic as the announcement was. That was only the most interesting thing because I already knew she was a girlboss, okay? Also, she didn’t mean to mess up on the blazers.
She remains the people’s princess and I’m proud of her for going through with the series despite everything. There was simply not enough content for 3 episodes, but that is not her fault.
3. why is it not getting lighter, faster?
Even though today’s Blue Monday is a concept invented for marketing holidays to sad people in cold places, it seems the sun did not get the memo. The sun is fulling playing into the marketing ploy. I’ve got not one, but two lights on in my office today alongside a large south facing window, and it’s still dark as hell. The girls and I cannot wrap our heads around just how dark it still is, all the time. Solstice was a month ago! Someone give the sun the memo!
4. why can we not stop crying???
Maybe it’s to do with the vitamin D deficiency, I don’t know. But all the gals I know seems ready to burst into tears if you dare to give them the “are you okay?” look, myself included. We’re not even one full month into 2025, but we’re already burned out and tired of everything. Earlier today I found myself doing “what kind of career should I go into” quizzes online. It told me to be an artist, lol. Feeling 16 again in the worst way. And no, I am not due my period. And no, I am not pregnant. And yes, my hormones are “balanced”. FUCK YOU
Probably it’s just because I have to work day after god damn day, and I still will never own a place of my own where I can buy a lamp without my husband rolling his eyes at me.
things I’m loving this week
Rituals mild exfoliator; I bought this on boxing day to replace the one I had before. One of my few loyal products I do not stray from.
Rare Beauty lip oil in shade ‘joy’; a nice pink for every day
Twining’s Glow tea; I know this has been a favourite before, but I just want to remind u all how much I love it
Isle of Paradise tanning water (medium); part of my Saturday/Sunday everything shower reset. Necessary when you are deprived of the sun as I am.
my watering can; didn’t have one for ages and finally bought this on amazon. Also part of my sunday reset to water the plants, and now I actually do it!
deliciously ella apple, raisin & cinnamon bars; taste like a cinnamon bun and i love these as a little snacky snack
HOKA Mach 6s; my new training shoe. Hard to toe strike in, but otherwise v nice. Did a half on Saturday and barely felt a twinge.
oil of oregano; this suggestion sponsored by my mom’s comment on last week’s substack. I take these tablets when I’m feeling sick as a little immune boost, and my tonsillitis has been lingering so these have come out in full force this week.
M&S brownie mix; M&S strikes again! I bought this so I could whip up some easy brownies for my friend & I while we watched mollie mae’s docuseries. I overbaked them a little, but they were still super yummy and so easy to make.
my football manager coat; AKA my Nike, ankle length puffer coat.I spent £250 on this when I had almost no money in the bank because I was sad, and I have never looked back. An always warm coat is an absolute must this time of year.
No Good Deed on Netflix; a star studded cast with Ray Romano, Lisa Kudrow, Luke Wilson, and Linda Cardellini. A little predictable but it still consumed most of my tv time this weekend.
Buy the lamp 👏🏻👏🏻
